Introduction

In 1950, 1 out of 20,000 children were diagnosed with a form of autism.

In 2008, 1 out of 150 children.

Litsa Kamateros, author of the upcoming new children’s picture book series, “Welcome to My Autistic World”, and Lea Schizas, author of “Bubba and Giganto”, a fictional tale of friendship and consequences of bullying, bring you a detailed research of the heart-wrenching bureaucratic ‘long tape’ on getting a child assessed and treated for autism.

Throughout this book, you’ll read personal accounts from parents from across Canada, and how they’ve fought tooth and nail to try to get funding for their children. Their stories need to be told and heard around the world. Change is not only needed in Canada, as the authors discovered through their research.

“Autism Epidemic: Shaking the System” is dedicated to all who have physically and mentally challenged their governments to bring about a quicker assessment time for their child, and help defray the costs for therapy that ensues.

The intent of the authors is to bring about awareness and a voice to help them battle this indifference by many in the higher ranks.

The cry of the parents of autistic children:

“Help us help our children.”
